Obituary for Earl Ray "Buddy" Whitaker

A Taylorsville resident, Mr. Earl Ray “Buddy” Whitaker, age 80, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 in Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was born March 8, 1937 in Taylorsville to the late Earl Cleveland and Marguerite Hopewell Whitaker. Buddy was a retired employee of General Electric, a former member and deacon of the First Assembly of God Church and was a United States Air Force Veteran. He also founded the Backwoods Bow Hunters Club, in which numerous youth of Spencer County attended.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Jean Hayden and Gloria Sue Broughton and his brother, Gerald Whitaker.
He is survived by his wife, Kathie Rogers Whitaker, 3 daughters, Vanessa (Paul) Yates, Michelle (Ken) Rakentine, both of Taylorsville, Tammy (Chris) White of Union, KY., his step daughter, Felicia Ingram and step son, Roger (Dana) Ingram, both of Taylorsville, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Earl Ray “Buddy” Whitaker will be 2:00 pm Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home. Bro. Chad Goodlett and Sister Mavis Bennett will officiate. Interment will be in Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00-8:00 pm. The Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements.
