Obituary for John Royce "Jack" Beam, Sr.

A Bardstown resident, Mr. John Royce "Jack" Beam, Sr., 90, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Windsor Gardens. He was born on January 12, 1928 in New Haven to the late Guy S. and Mary Burch Beam. John was retired from Barton’s Distillery as a shipping supervisor, a member of St. Joseph Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a walking book of knowledge when it came to the bourbon industry, he volunteered at the Oscar Getz Museum, loved to talk and never met a stranger. He also was an avid golfer, card player, fan of the Cincinnati Reds, University of Ky., Notre Dame and a member of the Quarterback Club. But being with his family was the most important to him especially the love of his life Mary Hortense, whom he has been married to for 69 years and they loved to travel together.
Besides his parents his was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Laura Lemieux, and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Hortense Sims Beam, sons, John (Karin) Beam, Jr. of Lexington, Joe Gary Beam of Bardstown, daughters, Betty Carol Riley of Bardstown, Jean (Larry) Acton of Franklin, TN., Katie (Richard) Patterson of Bardstown, Jackie (Vincent) Lemieux of Lexington. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be Monday January 22, 2018 at 11:00am at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with Reverend Joseph C. Batcheldor celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00-8:00pm and after 8:30-10:30am Monday at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, who is in charge of arrangements. Contributions may be made in the form of donations to St. Joseph Church, Hospice of Nelson County or Lexington Dream Factory.
